PVC Fittings and Pipes

Rims at the points of connection on PVC pipes are either built into the pipe as an outer or inner lip or added externally using PVC flanges. The ASA/ANSI set the standard PVC flange size in order to provide uniformity. Flanges are further classified based on the amount of pressure they can withstand.

The amount of pressure a flange can withstand depends on the material it is made with and the material it is interacting with. This leads to a wide range of pressure ratings. Flanges also come in a wide range of shapes. They can be raised, tongue and grooved, flat, or ring jointed, as well as a few other less common shapes.

Pipe flanges come in one of six design types in most incases. These are lap-joint, slip on, bind, weld neck, socket weld, and screwed. They can be made into squares, rectangles, or circles. Closet flanges are good examples of the round flange shape. These are applied to a pipe to give it a rim that a connecting pipe can fasten onto. The blind flange, also round in shape, covers the pipe face like a plate, ending the flow at this point. These are just two of many different types of flanges.
