With the increased use of PVC pipes and fittings, plumbing work has become easier and more convenient to accomplish. While some PVC connections have in-built rims others use external PVC flanges. The flanges are normally standardised in order to ensure that they fit on specific sizes of pipes. Further, the PVC flanges are made to withstand pressure depending on the use. It also takes into consideration the type of material that it will be used with. Therefore, when buying PVC flanges, one not only needs to consider the size of the fitting but it is also quite important to consider the pressure that it is supposed to withstand.

PVC flanges also come in different standard shapes. Some of the most common shapes of PVC flanges include the ring joint shape, flat flange, raised flange, and tongued shape flange.

The PVC flanges that are used on pipes also come in several designs. These include the slip-on, weld neck, socket, bind, socket weld and screwed type of flange. These designs are normally easy to use and they come in square, rectangular or circular shapes. One type of PVC flange that is used at the end of a pipe to end flow is known as the blind flange. It is one of rare types of flanges.

While installing these flanges, it is important to use the manufacturer’s guide that is normally provided when one purchases them. Improper fitting may make the flanges not to function as intended and cause leakages. High quality PVC flanges will always ensure that they will always withstand pressure. This capability makes them ideal for use in a variety of industries. At the same time, PVC fittings are mainly non-toxic which makes them fit to be used in a many industries. They are also durable. One only needs to ensure that they buy them from reputable sellers who provide quality fittings that meet the required standards.

PVC Fittings Tips for Dummies
written by: benedictus

I assume that you have already know that PVC fittings have a lot of models and sizes. It is easy to install PVC fittings; the hardest part is to do it correctly because it would need some knowledge. So what will happen if you accidentally put them in wrong order? Simple, they can leak and burst. I also recognized that some people still don’t have any idea about identifying what fitting they need. This problem usually related to recognize the pipe size and models. You don’t have to be worry no more because I will give you some simple tips to overcome these common issues.

1. Size
PVC fittings and pipes have printed size on it. You can check it if you had one. If you don’t have any pipes or fittings, you can read it on PVC size chart.
2. Model and function
These are some common fittings that you will often to meet at your local market, they are namely
a. Couple or union
If you want to join one pipe to another, you should use fitting called union or couple. Both has the same function yet have different state. You can’t disconnect pipes that joined by a couple because it permanently glued at both ends. On the other hand, you can release your pipes easily if you use a union because it has a collar and o-ring on it.
b. Slip socket
You can use slip socket to connect your pipe with another fitting.
c. Piece of pipe
You should use a short piece of pipe to join two fittings together. The piece must have fewer diameters compare to your pipes. Attach them permanently by adding glue at ends that goes into slip sockets of both fittings.
d. Female adapter
You will need this fitting if you want to connect a pipe with male threads.

I hope those tips will help you to recognize your need. Good luck guys!
