PVC Fittings and Pipes

Our products are manufactured by firms such as Lasco Fittings, HPC Inc., and Spears Mfg, and meet all industry standards. They also meet the ASTM Standard Specifications and Practices. Specifically, they meet ASTM D 2466 – Poly Vinyl Chloride Plastic Pipe Fittings Schedule 40 and ASTM D 2609 Plastic Insert Fittings for Polyethylene Plastic Pipe.

They also meet the National Sanitation Foundation Standard 61 and/or 14 Plastic Fittings for potable water.

Understanding the Terminology

Temps like Fpit, Mipt, Spig, and Slip are confusion, but they refer to the way the fittings work. All fittings have connections, and these can be Email Threaded (Fipt), Male Threaded (Mipt), Female Glue Joint (Slip), or Male Glue Joint (Spig).

Fipt: These fittings are threaded on the inside and will accept a threaded piece of pipe of the same dimension.

Mipt: The threading on these is on the outside, so the connection must go with one that is Fipt threadeded. Because Mipt fittings have the same end as the pipe, they cannot be connected to the pipe without another fitting.

Slip: These female fittings have no threading. They accept male pipes or fittings of the same size that are not threaded, and require glue.

Spig: These are the male non-threaded fittings, and they must go into a female unthreaded fitting of the same size. They cannot connect to a pipe without a fitting because they are the same shape as the pipe. These also require glue.

Schedule 40 Fittings Pressure Ratings

The rating of schedule 40 fittings is based on wall thickness. This means that the amount of pressure they can handle will vary. The ratings are in the chart below:

Recommendations for Use and Installation:

All plastic piping systems should be engineered, installed, and operated under the design and engineering standards and procedures specific for these systems. The installer and/or user is responsible for determining whether or not the plastic piping system is suitable for the intended use prior to installing it. All piping components must be inspected for irregularities or damages prior to assembly. Any mating components need to be checked to ensure that the engagements and tolerances are compatible prior to assembly. When welding connections using a solvent cement, choose a quality grade primer and solvent cement designed for that particular type of connection using the correct applicator size. Always read and follow manufacturer’s application and cure time instructions for the solvent cement.

WARNING:

These products are not designed for use with compressed air or gases. Using these to test the PVC piping system or product is dangerous. Do not use any devices propelled by compressed air or gas to clean your systems, as doing so may cause the system to explode, sending piping and components at a high rate of speed, leading to bodily injury or death.
